As part of the London 2026 Soma Yagna, families will have the opportunity to participate in a dedicated Pitru Yagna ceremony, conducted in a separate, specially prepared area approximately 50 metres from the main Soma Yagna Kund.

While the Soma Yagna focuses on universal wellbeing, cosmic harmony, and divine blessings for all, the Pitru Yagna is a deeply personal ritual, centred on honouring one’s ancestors and strengthening the spiritual foundation of the family.

What is Pitru Yagna?

Pitru Yagna is one of the five sacred duties (Pancha Maha Yajnas) described in the Vedic tradition. It is the act of offering gratitude, remembrance, and prayers to one’s ancestors (Pitru's

According to Vedic belief, our ancestors continue to exist in a subtle realm and remain connected to us. Through Pitru Yagna, families acknowledge this bond and seek to ensure peace for departed souls and blessings for future generations.

Why take part during the Soma Yagna?

Participating in Pitru Yagna, which will take place alongside the Soma Yagna, offers a rare and powerful spiritual opportunity:

  • Honour your ancestors in a traditional and authentic Vedic setting

  • Seek blessings for your family’s wellbeing, protection, and prosperity

  • Address ancestral imbalances (Pitru Dosha) that may impact family harmony

  • Complement the universal blessings of the Soma Yagna with personal family prayers

  • Involve the whole family, creating a meaningful intergenerational experience

By taking part, families align both cosmic (Soma Yagna) and ancestral (Pitru Yagna) dimensions of Vedic life.

What Does the Ceremony Involve?

The Pitru Yagna will be conducted by trained Vedic priests in a calm, respectful environment, separate from the main ceremony. The process includes:

  • Sankalp (sacred intention)

  • Families formally offer the ritual in the name of their ancestors

  • Tarpan (water offering)

  • Water mixed with sesame seeds is offered with mantras, symbolising nourishment and respect

  • Pind Daan (sacred offering)

Nav Graha Shanti (planetary harmony)

Alongside the Pitru Yagna, Nav Graha Shanti rituals will be performed to harmonise the influence of the nine planetary forces (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu).

In Vedic understanding, ancestral influences and planetary energies are interconnected. By including Nav Graha Shanti:

  • Planetary imbalances are pacified

  • Karmic obstacles linked to ancestry are reduced

  • The overall effectiveness of the Pitru Yagna is enhanced

This creates a more complete alignment of ancestral blessings and cosmic balance.

A dedicated sacred space

The Pitru Yagna will take place in a separate Yagna Kund area, thoughtfully located away from the main Soma Yagna to maintain:

  • Ritual purity and focus for both ceremonies

  • A peaceful and reflective environment for families

  • A clear distinction between universal (Soma Yagna) and ancestral (Pitru Yagna) offerings

This ensures that both Yagnas are performed in full accordance with Vedic tradition.

A rare opportunity for families

It is uncommon to have the opportunity to perform Pitru Yagna alongside a full Soma Yagna in such an authentic and organised setting.

To take part in this yagna, a suggested donation of £201 is requested. The yagna kund will be specifically for your family members only, so it is very intimate and personal. A maximum of six members can take part in any one kund.
