The Sacred Process of Soma Offering
The preparation of Soma is one of the most sacred and carefully regulated aspects of the Soma Yagna. The process is carried out by trained Vedic priests who have studied the ritual texts and mastered the precise pronunciation of the mantras.
Every step of the Soma preparation is accompanied by specific Vedic chants and ritual gestures. The process traditionally includes:
1. Sacred harvesting of the Soma plant.
2. Purification rituals before the preparation begins.
3. Pressing the plant between special ritual stones.
4. Filtering the juice through wool or cloth.
5. Mixing the Soma with water, milk, or other ritual ingredients.
6. Offering the prepared Soma into the sacred fire (Agni).
This process is known as the Soma pressing or Savana. It is typically performed three times during the day, corresponding to different phases of the ritual.
The offering of Soma represents the highest and purest form of devotion. It symbolises the surrender of life’s essence, the offering of one’s energy, thoughts, and actions to the Divine.
